spacebabie: River Tam and James Norrington...used when I write crossovers. (Bacon to heal)
The day started okay. Chilling around until I leave for my shift and played alittle bit on Gaia. Did a little trick or treating in towns.

Went to work, no problem. We got a 15 minute break instead of 20...that means we are getting out early. I was looking forward to more fun on Gaia, knock back with a Jack and Coke.

Then around 8: 22 I was wheezing. I didn't bring my Primateen inhaler with. (They stopped making them) I did have the tablets. Take one or two eveyr 4 hours and they said it should start working in about 15 minutes.

20 minutes later nothing. I took a second tab.

Nearly 9 and I'm still wheezing and gasping. It was getting worse. At nine we got the go home message. I tried to get my gear together but after standing up I had to sit down again. One of the supervisors came by and I told them I couldn't breathe.

I was wheeled into the breakroom and placed in front of the fridge. That cool air helped. They even gave me a pepsi for the caffeine. Will was called and so was an ambulance.

Two paramedics came in. They did a few vitals and gave me a breathing mask. In a couple of minutes I was able to breath freely again. They put me on the gurney and carried me into the ambulance where I got a shot and they tried to put an IV in me, but couldn't get a stick. I have small veins. They also gave me another breathing treatment. The kind with the steam.

In a few minutes I was at the hospital. I got two braclets, one with my name and another with my asprin allergy on it.

I was wheeled into a room and placed on a bed. Will arrived with his mother. They stuck one of those little breathing tubes into my nose.

I had to take off my shirt and unhook my bran and they put on a covering. Then they attached a wire to my finger and hooked me to a machine that had my heartrate, pulse and temp. On my other arm they put on the thing that takes my bloodpressure every now and then, just goes off automatically.

Then came the fun part. They poked me again for blood tests. They took one in my arm from the veins and then one in my wrist from an artery. Since they poked me in an artery they had to hold the gauze down onto my wrist in a tight clamp grip. That one hurt the most, and my arm went numb. They also stuck in a mini iv into my right arm. Whcih was helpfull cause vein test clotted too soon. They managed to draw a good dose from the iv.

Then they stuck on these stickers all over my body and then attached wires to the stickers, and then they pressed the button and then it was done.

Final test involved a chest X-ray and the plate they stuck behind me was cold. Thankfully that was short.

Then we had to wait for the test reults and I signed several forms. One of the paremedics came in asked me to sign something saying that they didn't kidnap me.

Turns out I have a small condition in one of my lungs where a part of it can't expand and fill all the way.

After I was discharged we removed the stickers, unhooked me from the machines, I got my bra and shirt back on, the nurse removed the mini iv and we got the paperwork and the perscriptions.

I am much better now. I have a slight headache, but that is a side effect from the prescription inhalant.

Hi Michele,

Whoa, glad your supervisor was there to help you get to the hospital o-O! Would you have had any way of contacting help otherwise?

I'm glad you're OK, but I am frustrated for you that rescue inhalers (epinephrine - Primatene) have become so much harder to get after, what?, 35+ years OTC.

I may have been able to call Will and ask for an ambulance.

Exactly. Those pills don't work as well.

Holy shit! What a day you had. It's good your're okay. Those damned kids huffing inhalers to get a buzz have made it difficult for those who really need it.

Yeesh, what a day, I hope you're feeling better now.

(Also, I've really got to stop marathoning House, it's gotten me seriously paranoid about anything medical lately)

Unfortunatly we I do not have insurance, but Will said he was going to work on getting me on his.

I did get a prescription inhaler yesterday...and I do have another OTC inhaler. I didn't bing it because I was trying to wean myself off it and hopefully depened on the pills.

An ambulance ride and an ER visit without medical insurance? OUCH.
I never used to think about that stuff when I was on active duty in the Navy; it was all covered by Uncle Sam. Now I'm not only doing my own dental insurance but dealing with Medicare insurance claims in the course of my work, and painfully aware of the costs.
Will's insurance probably won't cover anything that happens before you're put on his policy, but the good news is, most hospitals are willing to negotiate and take payment in installments.

His mother said she would take care of the hospital visit.
