Normally I never watch any L&O episodes (even if that Mariska is some hot babe :D), but I decided to watch based on the commercials. And that was some tense, high-quality shit last night.
Best moment - Olivia cold-cocking that guy with her elbow.
I have a radio that can pick up TV audio. I like to listen to it before going to sleep. Becasue of this I only "watched" the first 10-15 min of this episode and listened to the rest. I'm not sure, but I think that made it all the more dramatic.
I love how much excessive force fictional cops can get away with. In real life, Olivia would be suspended once that suspect gets a lawyer. She did a bang-up job of borking the physical case against him, too. By entering that building without a warrant, nothing the police found inside can be used at trial. Granted, in this case they have a live victim who can testify. But one of these days I'd love to see Benson and Stabler's cowboy tactics get them into serious hot water with the D.A. or Interal Affairs.
Stabler's actually been dismissed once for his tactics...(although he was orderd off a case and continued on it) And it's been an issue plenty of times...
As for the violence, he was trying to get away, so that's easily excused. And there are special circumstances where a warrant can be forgoed..such as kidnappings (which is what this was). It goes along with reasonable belief or probable cause or what not. You'll find a warrant isn't exactly an important issue when people's lives are at stake...especially minors.
I just watched my tape of it (cause I had to watch Boston Legal last night ^^')....oh my god. I was actually crying through most of it. That little girl...
I think my favorite part was the end, where she looked up at her and was all "Olivia?" *die*
I got so pissed when that guy asked for his lawyer....it's so horrible that the very laws we create to protect the innocent turn around and bite us in the ass by protecting monsters like that too. Thank God for forensics. ^^ Was a miracle she was still alive though...I wonder how long she was supposed to have been down there?
And so smugly too. Just crossed his legs and got that look in his eyes like, "Okay, you know I did it, and I know I did it. But I'm not going to say anything, because I'm smarter than yooo-oouu, you can't catch me!"
