Canon/Fanon perception of Naval boys, Relationships, and OC’s.
Notes: This is how I view my naval boys, and how I write them in my fics. The lines between canon and fanon are a bit blurred, and some obvious bits, such as background and hobbies, are pure fanon.
Part I, my perception of the Naval boys.
James Norrington
His father was a good business man and his mother helped around in the shop when she possibly could
James has an older brother and a younger sister, given the time it was more likely the older brother would be the heir and the sister would be married, James would seek out his own lifestyle. His father did help by purchasing a commission in the Royal Navy for James.
Appreciates fine craft work, whether it is a well made sword, or an exquisite dinner, or even a painting he would take the time to admire it and compliment the artist.
He has a great love for the sea. He loves being aboard the ships, staring at the waves. He has respect for many of the creatures in the sea. He orders his men to fish for food and not a sport.
Tends to stay calm during battle, rarely does anything faze him.
Respects the uniform and what it represents.
He cares for his crew. He may seem stern and unfeeling when he is giving out orders, but deep inside he does care for all who serve under him. He dislikes having to use the lash and only uses it when an officer is being exceptionally insubordinate.
He had a close relationship with both Andrew Gillette and Theodore Groves, and enjoys spending his time off with them.
James is well suited for strategy.
He tries to stay as clean as possible, but will not neglect the fact he will allow his face to miss the blade for a few days, as long as he is on shore leave, and will allow his hair to get loose, while in the bedroom with the right person.
He feels it is his duty to protect. He may not want to admit it, but he will be the knight in shining armor to the damsel in distress.
He knows how to play the keys, and enjoys sitting down on the bench in front of a spinet or a harpsichord.
While he dislikes the vile and disgusting pirates like Barbossa, he has grown to see Jack as more of an rogue than a murder/rapist. He still finds Sparrow to be annoying.
Andrew Gillette
Andrew Gillette has great love and respect for the England, serving in the Royal Navy means is a great honor to him
That being said he feels a bit of shame of being Irish with a French last name, even though it was his grandfather who was French and most of his blood is Irish. He works hard at trying to cover his accent.
His heart leads him to both men and women and while he is still waiting for the right woman to come his way, he has certain feelings for James. If his commanding officer returns the affections Andrew would accept.
He has knowledge of several different mythos.
Whenever he does get frightened or flustered he would think of James and how he would handle the currant situation.
He is not fond of rum, prefers fine brandy, scotch and wine, although it is rare for him to have more than two servings. He tries hard to not become a certain Irish stereotype.
Andrew loves to swim, feels it is good exorcise and it is very refreshing.
He enjoys a good book, especially if it is about the sea and stories of fantasy.
He is skilled in both blade and pistol.
When James gives an order he tries to be the first one to follow through.
He is always willing to do what James asks of him, although he will question if he feels something is odd.
He feels he is a good judge of character. He saw through Elizabeth quite early.
Andrew is a good friend of Theodore and encourages his friend to be a bit more responsible. He wants to see his friends promoted.
Willing to go assist James, even beyond the grave.
Theodore Groves
While he admires fine ladies and had been courting several, he is ready to settle down. He just needs to find the right one.
He has a good sense of humor and tries to soften the moods of his fellow soldiers with a good joke, but only when appropriate.
Has an outgoing look in life, smiles more often than his fellow officers, and rarely gets angry. (Unless a certain bold woman gets under his skin)
While usual easy going he becomes as disciplined as James and Andrew during battle, and during a swordfight he can become quite fierce.
Like Andrew he is also enjoys a good swim, and will often accompany his friend in the water.
He will try to find a loophole out of any doctor’s order to continue serving along with James and Andrew if he becomes injured.
He knows a little bit about myths, mostly those centering around faries.
He tries to get Andrew to relax a bit, but he feels Andrew is the better lieutenant and feels he shouldn’t be promoted until his friend had.
Even if he does become promoted to Captain and receives his own ship he would want to set sail with James and Andrew.
He will compliment odd battle strategies and skills, even if it is by the enemy.
While he is not as vocal about it as Andrew, he also had a dislike for Elizabeth.
Murtogg and Mullroy
Murtogg and Mullroy are very close friends and had been for years.
They may not be the brightest men in the Royal Marines, but they are brave.
They will get into arguments over some of the more trivial things, but may bring up good points.
They each have their own side hobbies. Mullroy likes to cook and Murtogg reads books about mythology. Murtogg has become a fan of a few legends and tales.
Both are quite shy when it comes to the opposite gender. They will blush and shuffle
