My feathers got ruffled again at the Gargoyles X board...and this time it aint Imperious Dakar.

and now for the jist.
Malakia starts a thread wonderhing how she should handle a bad fic writer...aka what would be the most polite way to go about it. The fics she had in mind were removed from the Gargoyles Fanfic archive.
Doppleganger had wondered if it was another author before Malakia revealed who she had in mind and brought up the fact the author had written Elisa as a Damsel in distress and Goliath was her loyal puppy dog.
Opus Dye replies with the following
Other than the way the writer potrays the character's did they write a good fic. Or is your view of the fic biased because you don't like how characters written? Isn't the premise of fanfiction to create new worlds, situations in which fan fic characters live. Without that creativity whats the point of fanfiction?
Was there a warning that said the characters would be OOC?
When we read fanfiction we want to read stories about the characters we fell in love with. Finding fic where the characters are completely out of character to the point where they no longer resemble the characters from the show can cause quick hits on the back button.
Tima might not be trying to write them out of character on purpose. In such a case she would need a friendly an helpful letter that would help her improve her writing.
of course if there was an OOC warning then we have no right to complain.

Opus Dye replied: Any story with an original idea could be considered ORIGINAL FICTION. If fanfic writers are obligated to write how other people want them to write, then they are sacraficing their own creativity to satisfy others. And yes that is what the back button is for, if you don't like it don't read it but that doesn't give you the right to trash it. Without creativity in fanfic there would be no slash or femslash. Some of the best garg fiction I've read has Demona in sexual relationships with Elisa/Fox/Robyn/Andrea but if those authors had followed cannon those stories would never have been written.
If it's okay for us, to dictate, to each other what's acceptable and what isn't in writing fanfic, then that means its okay for the government to tell us whats acceptable, right?
Trying to tell someone how they should write is borderline telling them how they should think. The last time I checked this was still a free country.

of course what really irked me was the fact he used those words. "Don't Like Don't read"
I better stop reading fanfiction then...Because there is a chance I might read something that I don't like. I am not a psychic. I won't know I wont like it unless I read it.
"Dont Like don't read" saying started when people wrote NC 17 and slash fics The put the warning that it's an adult fic or its a slash fic because there are some people who don't like that sort of fiction. They stay clear, yet there are some who still read it and then bitch because there was sex and a guy making out with another guy. That is where the term Don't Like Don't Read comes in.
Now every bad ficcer who's fics shouldn't even see the dark side of the fiction archives use this phrase whenever they receive concrit.
"Oh Duo Maxwell is so hot. I'll write a story about a female pilot and she will be exactly like me, and Duo Will fall in love with her and everybody will like her...except for Relena, but she's a stupid bitch and I will make sure everyone will see her as a stupid bitch and hate her."
and off course amongst all the "OMG this fic rulz plz rite more!"
There would be actual concrit and the author's response...
"OMG you are so mean. Don't like don't read."
Hey Duo lover, you are not a beautiful snowflake. I don't care how sensitive you are. If you write fic were you completely warp the characters people will write reviews...and they will not all be sparkly praise, and if the fic is really bad there is a high likely chance it will be MSTed.
Don't want it? Then don't post it. but if you do...then please put warnings that the characters are OOC and/or if there is a Mary Sue.
And Ellen Stolfa did write an amazing fic that had two canon characters slashed. (I'm not saying who cause that would ruin the surprise) and she kept them in character.
This is why I wish people who blatantly writer characters to be OOC, character bash and Mary Sues to put warnings...lets me know wich fics I want to avoid. I'll read some Mary Sues and even a few OOCs in the summary intriguies me enough of if it's by an author I like.

At the same time Owen Puck dicided it was a good time to do a sole swapping xpermint. because of the loophole in his magic, he had to teach the baby a trick in order to swap everybodies soles. so he switched the bodies of Demona and Elisa with two other women who were lesbee anns. because no-car wiped their memories, they didn't know who they were. but they had been gighting a couple minutes earlier, and it was daylight so demona was human and elisa had a different body because of the sole swap, and demona too, and because they were fighting they were holding each others wastes when they lost their memories. and because they were lesbee anns, they decided they must have been having sex before they lost their memories. so they had a lot of sex with their. breasts and then Goliath came up to both of them and said "my loves, bth of u at once, I must have u. so goliath pulled out his mighty jonson and they all had sex. and then it turned to night and Demona got her tale and wings back, but they were having such good sex they kept having it and it was really good.
And David Santos was watching with secrit cemeras he had all over the building. and Fox Sanatos was watching to, and was turned on to. but Santos had his body switched by pucks spell, and puck was taking care of baby alex, so Santos was actually Hyena and Fox was actually her were foc self, but they were so turned on by the cameras that they had sex too, even though the were both girls, because one of them was a man and he pulled out his mighty johnson and held her by the waste as they had sex.
The trio was also having sex with Angela, but they were their gargoyle selfs, because puck thought that was funny. Brooklyn and Broadway both had out their mighty johnsons and were having sex with Angela, but Lexington was having sex with Brooklyn and Broadway because he was gay. Alex was just a baby so he didn't care.
then puck ended his speel and No-car's amnesia ray wore off and everything went back to normal, and no one knew anything had happened, except Santos, because he had video cameras.
